PIONEER MAID WOOD COOK STOVE by SUPPERTIME STOVES, Ltd.

Suppertime Stoves, Ltd. began in 1979, with the founders being two Amish brothers Elmo and Mark Stoll. Dairy farmers by trade in Ontario, Mark was frustrated with the old style cook stove that was able to cook meals or do the family baking but was not efficient enough to heat their small house. A second stove was needed for heat and Mark did not find it very appealing to keep two fires burning during the long Canadian winters! After much discussion the two brothers decided to design a heater and cook stove combination using the downdraft principle. They called this new stove The Pioneer Maid. It became the first airtight wood cook stove and needless to say it was an instant hit among the Amish people and soon word got around. They began cranking out an average of 300 units per year.

Amish Farmer Practicality
Like most things on the farm how it works means more than how it looks. So it is with the Pioneer Maid. This stove is built for function not form. So if you are looking for a stove with perfect detail and finish this is not the stove for you. However, if you are looking for a moderately priced stove with a lot to offer then read on!

The Pioneer Maid is a top load stove, meaning an "eye" in the cook top is lifted to load wood in the firebox.

This stove heats up very quickly and efficiently and is very easy to cook and bake in because the firebox is close to the cook top. For that reason it makes a wonderful "summer" stove yet it can do the job of heating a 2000 square foot house during the cold months of the year! It is one of the most, if not THE most airtight stoves we sell.

The Pioneer Maid is UL certified.*

Consider the Following:

  • Overnight Burn - The Pioneer Maid easily hold a fire all night or longer - no fire to kindle in the morning -  just open the drafts1

  • Fingertip Control - The Pioneer Maid offers a degree of control undreamed of by grandmother. A simple twist of the twin air-intake knobs and the fire leaps to life. A twirl in the reverse direction and it is almost instantly dampened down.

  • Large Firebox - The large size of the firebox permits stoking the fire for longer periods, as well as cutting down on the splitting of wood.

  • Quality Lining -  The refractory brick liner in the firebox is thicker and stronger, custom-molded to our specifications.

  • Welded Construction - The Pioneer Maid is held together with welded steel throughout for a lifetime of trouble-free performance.

  • Downdraft Efficiency - For years cook stoves have been notoriously inefficient. Not so the Pioneer Maid. Users report cutting their fuel consumption up to one half!

  • Roomy Oven - The oven not only heats quickly, holds an even heat for longer periods of time, and is easily controlled - but iit has a capacity for 8 loaves of bread!

  • Porcelain Finish - The entire stove exterior is clad in baked-on porcelain for better looks and easier cleaning.

  • A Space Heater - The Pioneer Maid doubles as a space heater when the oven door is open, thus converting the oven into a ready-made heat exchanger, unbelievably efficient. It will heat approximately 2,000 square feet.

  • High Back and Shelf - A high back and sturdy shelf provide convenient storage for the items you like to have handy when cooking or baking.

  • Warming Closet - An optional warming closet is also available to keep food warm until mealtime. 10" x 10" x length of the stove.

  • Durable Stainless Steel - Almost 50% of the stove body itself (excluding the top) is made of stainless steel material that should never rust or corrode.

  • Standard Features - The Pioneer Maid offers many features such as an ash pan for easy cleaning, stay-cool wooden knobs and handles, black porcelain finish, spring-loaded oven door, oven thermometer, internal flue damper, and an optional hot water coil and a reservoir model (10 U.S. gallons).
